Mission
Our mission is to hold juvenile defendants (ages 11-16) who received a Class C misdemeanor accountable for their criminal charge while providing effective case management in order to prevent them from becoming repeat offenders within the legal system.
Resolving a Criminal Charge
Each criminal charge is handled on a case by case basis. Once a juvenile defendant appears in court he or she will meet with a City Prosecutor to discuss the charge and what options are available to resolve that charge.
If the juvenile defendant is given the option of a Deferred Disposition (also known as a deferral), he/she will meet with a Youth Services case manager. Depending on the criminal charge, the case manager will set forth the requirements the defendant must fulfill in order to resolve the charge. Those requirements may consist of community services hours, completing a class, or participating in more extensive community based program. If the deferred disposition is successfully completed, the case will be dismissed.
