To accomplish this mission, NHCD directly administers a variety of programs to serve the community's housing, community development, and economic development needs and provides grant funding to various agencies and non-profit organizations.

Final FY 08-09 Action Plan
The FY 08-09 Action Plan was approved by the Austin City Council on July 26, 2008 and submitted to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development on August 15, 2008. The Action Plan outlines how the City plans to spend the $12 million in federal funds, as well as local dollars, for the fiscal year 2008-09 (October 1, 2008 through September 30, 2009). Affordable Housing Preservation Study
Neighborhood Housing and Community Development Department releases the Preserving Affordable Housing In Austin: A Platform for Action study. The study is an in-depth assessment by the Neighborhood Housing and Community Development Department (NHCD) of housing affordability in Austin, national trends and best practices. The report includes recommendations as a platform for addressing the challenges in today's housing market and focuses on how to retain affordable housing in our community.
