Northwest Area Command

Commander James O’Leary

The Northwest Area is the largest and fastest growing area of the city covering 50 square miles, from Mansfield Dam to Metric Blvd, and from Avery Ranch to Far West Blvd. This includes residential, business and industrial areas, as well as its share of high technology firms. The Northwest Area Command located at 12425 Lamplight Village Ave., is a full-service police substation comprised of Patrol, Motorcycle, Support, Division Detectives, Metro Tactical, and District Representative components.

The District Representative program is designed to build and maintain partnerships with the community at the neighborhood level through the different neighborhood associations, citizens groups and faith-based organizations. They assist in planning, evaluating and designing solutions to the special issues and crime problems for their districts. This is done through the promotion of crime prevention efforts through Neighborhood Watch training meetings and home surveys.

All of the officers in the Northwest Area Command are dedicated to the Austin Police Department's mission to keep you, your family, and our community safe. The NW Area Command will focus on those issues that the community identifies as high priority in an effort to reduce violent crime and property crime in our hope to improve safety and the quality of life for all residents.
