Classroom Presentations
"The Road to Zero Waste!" with Captain Can
The Road to Zero Waste is Solid Waste Services’ free interactive class for second graders. Captain Can introduces students to the concepts of recycling and conservation in a fun-filled educational activity that incorporates Language Arts, Science and Math.
"Reduce, Reuse, Recycle." That’s Captain Can’s message. Captain Can helps children learn all about the super-power of saving the environment through recycling.
Recycling Adds Up!
This free math-based lesson teaches third graders about recycling. Students will enjoy meeting Mr. Jason and his sidekick, Michael the Puppet, as the two lead students through an engaging, game-show format math game.
Recycling Adds Up! is built around the Austin Independent School District (AISD) math curriculum and has many math-based word problems for students to solve as they learn more about the positive impact that recycling has on the environment.
This lesson provides a great opportunity for students to practice solving math problems found in the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test which corresponds with the state's curriculum standards called the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
See the TEKS standards this lesson covers.
