Commercial and Multi-Family Recycling Ordinance
Starting a Recycling Program
New businesses and multi-family complexes that fall under the recycling ordinance must provide the City with a recycling plan form within 14 days of beginning operations.
The first thing to do is to select a recycling company and determine which materials would be the best for you to recycle. If you collect a lot of recycling, you may be able to offset the cost by reducing the number of garbage dumpsters you have or by reducing the number of times they are emptied each week.
You should make sure you have sufficient containers to hold the recycling and that they are convenient for your tenants and employees to use. Generally, you should place a recycling container(s) everywhere you have a dumpster or trash can.
Communicating with employees and tenants is an important component of your recycling program. Make sure that tenants and employees understand what can and cannot be recycled. Send out reminders throughout the year.
